Is It Still Monday?
Remember all of the problems we had with the smoke detector last month when I was cleaning the oven? Now the one upstairs in the master bedroom is acting up. A false alarm is a pain when it’s just the beeper in the smoke detector going off. It’s a gigantic nuisance when it’s wired into your home alarm and sets off every siren in the house, and calls the fire department. So, today could have been a better day. The units we have were so prone to false alarms that the manufactured discontinued them. Unfortunately that was after they were installed in our home. Hardwired units are expensive compared to their battery-powers stand-alone counterparts. And, with taxes coming up next month, we don’t need another expense. Grrrh!

Our’s are wired as well, but don’t call the fire department. We’ve had the beeper go off and cause the others to start beeping. It wound up being a low battery in one of the units. What a pain in the ass.
Mr. Manic Depressive: Ours definitely need to be replaced. I’m not comfortable disconnecting them if there is a problem so it often makes for a long night while I clean them up get them reinstalled. Our home in relatively new but that still doesn’t reduce the chance of an electrical fire from a faulty appliance. Just one more thing on the list of things to buy when the economy recovers.
