Finished Tinkering
I wrote some nifty JavaScript to add the Silverlight-based player used in the previous post to all of our WMV-formatted movies. It only shows up if Silverlight is installed. If not, then there is a link to the movie the same as it was before (click on the preview picture to download and play the movie) and a button which installs Silverlight. Since I’m doing everything via JavaScript, I can change or update the player without having to edit all of the posts. Plus, as an added bonus, it saves bandwidth compared with downloading with a browser and playing in Windows Media Player since WMP isn’t optimized for remote content. I also changed increased the bufferlength to 30 seconds. The video won’t start playing as quickly; but it won’t be so jumpy. I may need to tweak the bufferlength; but, otherwise I’m finished tinkering.
BTW: I uninstalled the module which limits concurrent requests by IP address. It was causing too many 503 errors for legitimate users. I apologize if you were one of those affected.
P.S. I’m not including a photo of California Girl to accompany this dull, geek post since it’s almost past time for our Two For Tuesday post.
