Two For Tuesday – 161
One of my big pet peeves of the upcoming holiday season is the several family members that, despite having known me for most of my life, never get me anything is the right size. I’ve received some nice items that would have been perfect; except for the fact that they were two sizes too big. And, I typically can’t exchange them since the stores only have limited stock and are out of my size by the time we exchange gifts. Admittedly, I used to be bigger/heavier I am now; but I have never, ever worn XXL. It’s frustrating donating something that you would otherwise like to charity. So, if it’s not too humongous, I keep it hoping for an unforeseen occasion to wear it.
Last year, for example, I received a Cincinnati Bengals sweatshirt that was so big that the bottom was around my thighs and the pockets were at crotch level. Here are a few pictures California Girl and I took to show how impractical of a size it is. Since no one in my family reads this blog California Girl and I thought impractical Christmas gifts is a good theme for a post. As always, click ‘em to big ‘em.

Hm, looks like a good size to me, sweatshirts are supposed to be a little big (in my opinion).
Eh, maybe if it gets super cold you can use it layered over other things?
Or for when you want to keep your top half warm while California Girl keeps the bottom half hot!
When I was 8, I was a small, average sized kid. My aunt gave me an adult XL tshirt. I eventually gave it to my dad. Another time she gave me a used cd, scratched, with a cracked cover. The CD came out 5 years before. Finally my mom gave her a list of 2 or 3 appropriate gifts, and that helped. When I turned 18 she gave me a card that was more appropriate for a 5 year old. I feel you on the weird gifts. That is a good use of a bad gift!
Drey: My Cincinnati Bengals sweatshirt is not the worst of them. It’s just a larger than average large and I wear a medium. The worst was probably two or three years ago when I got a rather nice pullover that was XXL. If you looked at it you would be able to tell that there was no chance that it would fit me. I know that oversized is sometimes considered stylish; but three sizes to big!
Chickie: The only problem then is that the pockets are much too low to be useful. If I was a woman, I could wear it as a dress. As a guy, I have to pull it up and out of the way to get access to all the essential equipment.
Anonymouse: What’s get under my skin is that I spend a LOT of time looking for the right gift for everyone. And, if I have any questions, I ask friends or relatives of the intend recipient to make sure that I get something that is useful and would be appreciated. I don’t expect for everyone to go so that; but if you get something hats way, way to big; perhaps you should get something smaller the next time.
