Electricity
It seems like such a simple thing until you don’t have any. As a result of the strong winds that we experienced here in Ohio on Sunday, we didn’t have any electric power from mid afternoon on Sunday until late Tuesday night. We consider ourselves fortunate to have since the utility companies are saying it may be as late as this weekend until power is restored to everyone. Except for losing a refrigerator worth of food and some frazzled nerves we are no worse for the wear. No trees fell on our house; and, amazingly, we didn’t lose any shingles so most of our “clean up” will be restricted to picking up debris that blew into the yard. Our house has many of windows, so there was plenty of light until the sun went down. And unlike many people, we had plenty of hot water. Plus, the weather has been very temperate so we didn’t need heat or air conditioning. So, California Girl and I spent a lot of time engaging in the #1 activity that people do when there’s a power outage.

Good for you for making productive use of your time. It’s a blessing that there were not too many problems for you. None for me either. Weird that my electricity only flickered for a moment and stayed on even though others a mile or so away had none. The area was hit hard, and it’s sad that so many old trees in our neighborhood and city blew down.
Glad your power is back on. That can be such a pain.
I’m pretty sure of what you did while the power was out.
Wish I would’ve thought of that the last time our power was out. I spent my time just being hot and grouchy!
Glad to hear you’re okay. When I tried to reach your site on Monday, I thought, “Uh oh” but realized you were probably in the wind damaged area.
Rosie: We’re quite fortunate. As I write this, one of our daughters friends is here taking a shower. They are on a well; and without electricity, they have no running water; so they can’t even flush the toilet. At least all of the grocery stores aren’t out of food.
Chickie: You’re probably used to situations like this since you live in “hurricane alley”; but this is a new experience for us. If we can afford it, I’m going to get a standby generator. Sex is the #1 form of recreation for power outages. That’s why there are so many biases born exactly nine months after a major blackout.
Mr. Manic Depressive: The wing caused major power and internet outages throughout the state. Of Ohio’s 88 counties 84 have been declared disaster areas. It’s not nearly as bad as Texas and recovery will go much quicker; but there is still a lot of recovering to do. Plus many of the power crews were out of the area assisting with hurricane relief efforts. So, in addition to being t worst power outrage ever seen the local utilities were short repair personnel. We’re back on the air now. I just wonder how much email we lost.
