A Lesson Learned
After a week of unsuccessfully lobbying us to pay for a bigger share, The Girl finally got a new mobile phone. She had been holding out for a model which was much more expensive; but we declined to increase our contribution. I think it was a good financial lesson for her. Her choices were to make due with a partially working phone that can only place and receive calls and save her money toward a new one with a lot of nifty features. Or get a more affordable model and go back to texting her friends a gazillion times a day. That’s a choice that we as adults make quite often; but it’s one that she really needed to think and reflect on. Hopefully, she’ll remember the lesson.

Yup. I know that lesson.
I saved for my mp3 player instead of buying an iPod because I can’t afford those.
I learned that lesson so I’m sure she’ll learn hers.

Kate: I hope so but I’m not sure. Since their mom and I do so much for The Girl and her brother, she sometimes has unreasonable expectations. In this case, our contribution was ZERO. If her phone would have broken because it was old instead of overuse we would have helped; but, of the four that we have, hers was the only one that needs replacing, so we thought that it was fair for her to pay for the new one.
