Snowbound
We’re having a HUGE snowstorm here in Ohio. It started in the morning on Friday and has been going ever since then. The kids got dismissed early from school (just after lunch) and we were even released early from work on Friday due to the heavy snow. I guess that counts as a half of a snow day. The Boy and The Girl are mad because school would have been cancelled for sure if this were a week day. It’s blowing and drifting so much I can’t tell how much snow there is; but, it’s a lot.

We knew it was coming so the refrigerator is well stocked. And, of course, California Girl has plenty of Gynol II spermicidal for her diaphragm. Even if anyplace was open, we don’t have anything to do this weekend; so we’re not even going to go out and shovel until the storm breaks. The Internet is crawling. I guess that’s what happens when everyone is inside. I may try to catch up on a few blogs; but, as much as I hate to admit it, with the Internet so slow, today is probably a good day to work on our income tax return.
If you live in Ohio or anyplace else affected by the blizzard what are you doing today?

I stayed in and baked bread and cookies. I also took my dog out in the back yard and we played… which was pretty amusing since the snow is taller than he is
Well CJ was born in Ohio (Shelby). I lived there for about 10 years. CJ and I met at Ashland University and lived in Toledo and Sandusky after we graduated. I left with CJ when we were about 27. Our daughter was born in Sandusky during a blizzard. So I guess the best thing I’ve done during a blizzard in Ohio was give birth ! LOL
We were even talking today about not missing the snow these days…for now we’ll take rainy Baltimore.
We too are hiding out indoors this weekend, not because of snow but heat!!! It is 40 (104) today and it isnt going to get cooler anytime soon. We are in the middle of a record heatwave! It is a holiday weekend in our state but it is just too hot to go out and do anything.
Ms SD
Here is Philly the same storm has been all rain and flooding.
I stayed in and cleaned, caught up on some of the more pressing email, tried not to eat too much. And will admit it is enjoyable to be all warm and cosy and look out on all the fluffy white stuff. The sun even came out in the afternoon and it all sparkled.
Well, here in Phoenix I was mowing my lawn yesterday… It was in the mid 70′s…
Well, we pay for the nice winters in the summer with the heat..
I live in Dayton, and we did get a huge pile of snow – about 13″! I took some pics of the snow.
I don’t miss that kind of snow, that’s for sure!
I got a few snow stories. I’ve lived in Ohio and been snowed in before.
As a kid, we got snowed in and the door was covered and we had to go to the second story window to get out.
Glad you are stocked up!
AlwaysCurious: Some cookies would have been nice. I didn’t have to eat them; but, it would have been nice to smell them baking throughout the house. We had a huge breakfast and a good size dinner; but the aroma is not the same. I didn’t think that dogs liked to pay in the snow when the snow is higher than their “ground clearance”.
DirtyDebbie: Both our kids have summer birthdays. In part because of what we do in bad weather in the fall.
I think I would miss the snow of we moved away. It’s a nuisance when you have to be someplace; but, it is picturesque. And it gives us great stores to tell.
Ms SD: We love the burning sun. If it ever gets was 104°F here, we’ll be outside in the pool. The weather in Ohio is widely variable. We might not see temperatures over a hundred during the summer; but, every year, we see temperatures in the upper 90s (36-37°C). That’s after having sub-zero temperatures (17-20°C below zero) during the winter. Around her you need a good sized air conditioner and a big furnace.
Steve: The flooding stars next week after a warm front passes through and all of this snow starts to melt. Everybody better check their sump pumps.
Rosie: I know we ate too much. We burned some of the calories shoveling snow but not nearly enough. And, the weather was far too bad to go work out (even if anyplace was open) and we never even considered running outside. I will say that the snow does look nice if you don’t have to go outside in it. Especially now that we’ve cleaned our driveway so we don’t have to worry how hard that much snow is to shovel.
DisappearingJohn: It will be at least another month before the grass even things about growing. And a lot of the vegetation that edge many of the driveways don’t like having all of the snow piled on top of them and will take a while to recover. And I bet our winter heating bill is as bad or worse as your summer air condition bill.
Debbie: I didn’t take any pictures mostly because we’ll probably have this again sometime in the future. It was only a few years ago that that we had another large storm. And, I’m old enough to remember the Blizzard of ’78, the likes of which have never been seen again.
Kate: I think I would miss it. Just because it brings out the kid in us. It’s “fun” so long as we’re war and dry and don’t have to go outside. California Girl and I had a very restful weekend. I’m going to hate going back to the rat race on Monday. The snow blew a lot; but not nearly as much as in olden times. I remember it completely covering cars during a big storm when I was in high school.
I’m originally from northern Indiana and am also old enough to remember the Blizzard of ’78. We had more snow days than any other year. Banding the neighbors together to take snowmobiles into town on grocery runs, the front of the neighbor’s house completely covered by a snowdrift…ah, the memories. My mom still has a scrapbook of newspaper clippings from that winter.
It was in the 50′s out here in the Rockies foothills over the weekend. As long as there’s plenty of
snow in the mountains to ski on, it’s the best of both worlds! Stay dry in the big melt!
Mountain Girl: 1978 was a great year if you were a kid like I was. We were out of school for days. And the snow was piled so high and stayed around so long it was fun for weeks.
It’s been in the 40s her so the snow is really starting to melt; but I do find it humorous that it’s warmer in Colorado than Ohio.
