In Memoriam Once Again
I can’t believe it happened again. Senseless violence is always senseless violence; but I’d like to think that there aren’t that many crazy people out there. I’m not naive enough to think that metal detectors and more security is the answer. At best, the guards are just the first ones killed. You can’t protect yourself from people that want to die in an infamous fashion. The only thing that we can do is try and make the world a better place and give everyone a reason to live. Peace.

It seems it’s become an epidemic. My local news this am said this was the fifth incident they had reported on in the last 7 days. Not all was shootings, but there were a couple of other incidents where children were arrested for bringing guns to high school.
Makes me want to just stay home and keep my child at home. There’s also been a couple of shootings at malls, fast food places, Dollar General Store, etc in the last year.
I read about this in the paper today – I am really surprised we dont have more events like this here. Maybe it is just a matter of time.
Ms SD
Kitty: It’s tough to be a parent with these things happening on high school and college campuses. And it doesn’t matter what the school size is. We’re really at their mercy. In the once case I remember, there was a metal detector at the door so the kid shot and killed the security guard; then walked right though and started shooting the people that he was really after. And now, because we over react to everything we (adults) have even less information because kids don’t want to get anyone in trouble for just being a kid. The root cause is that we’ve lost the trust of many of our teenagers and young adults. We’ve got to get it back then we can stop these sorts of things from happening.
Ms SD: maybe your authority figures listen to people better and take appropriate action before things get out of hand. Or maybe you are just lucky. But sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Especially when faced with problems that don’t have an easy solution. And certainly not any ones that would be popular.
There are a lot of angry and depressed people in this world.
Greg & Sheryl: Indeed. And, with all the punishments that we have, they have no incentive to get any help.
