No More Next Year
I have always said that sports are a great teacher for life. Unfortunately, The Boy got a great life experience on Saturday. I know that he is just a teenager and has almost his whole life in front of him; but I did not like seeing him disappointed; especially after working so hard. Life isn’t always “fair” and sometimes, things don’t work out through no fault of your own. It has happened to me a lot over the years. But that didn’t make it any easier to explain to him. And, when you’re a senior, there’s no more next year.
I remember how happy everyone was that his wrestling team lived up to expectations and had a great season last year. It seemed like a given; but, as we found out on Saturday, when you’re dealing with teenage boys, anything can happen. I know that is sometimes the case. I just hate that there isn’t anything that I can do about it.
Hopefully, this post wasn’t too nonsensical. E-mail me if you want to know the rest of the story.

As a parent, I know how you feel, it hurts when we cant do anything to make wrongs a right for our kids.
what happened?
Kitty: Usually, I’ve been able to insulate the kids from things; but it’s getting harder and harder as they get older. Nothing that happens in high school sports is the end of the world; but they sure take things hard. I know that it is the way of things; but I don’t like being so helpless.
Sarah: You’ve got mail. (Or you will have soon.)
Yes, what happened?
Chickie: You’ve got mail.
I’ve been involved in wrestling and grappling for a long time. On any given day, anyone can lose. Even the great Dan Gable lost his final collegiate match. What really matters in the long run is what you put into getting there, (win or lose) and what you take out of it.
It doesn’t take the immediate hurt away, but whose arm gets raised at the end is just a momentary. What is really important are the lessons of dedication, discipline, confidence, and hard work. They pay off, regardless of who won a match.
Joatster: True. And I know that anything that can go wrong will go wrong. It’s not like he’s never lost before. But, it was rather unexpected and unnecessary. Sometimes, it’s better to be not so good and lucky than good but unlucky. That was one of those times.
