Finally Some Iron

The Boy’s cross country team finally brought home some iron yesterday. And, in addition to the team trophy many of the runners got individually trophies too. Yesterday was the best race they have run all season by far. Despite the usually warm October weather and a challenging course they were able to run well. They’ve been on the verge all season long, so it was good to see them finally break through. And the best thing about the season is that they have exceeded everyone’s expectations except their own, their coach, and their parents. What many expected to be a “down year” is actually something that they can look back on in the future and feel very proud of. It’s amazing what can be accomplished if you believe in yourself. Plus, the season is not quite over so there is a chance for more good things to come.

My daughter just bought home two medals from nationals, a much better result than was expected. It is great to see your kids hard work and dedication pay off.

It looks like things are looking up for the kids. I know winning isnt everything, but a win every now and then helps them realize their dedication doesnt go unnoticed. Congrats.

Wow a good day for you. That’s so nice to read after I was saddened about the recient olympian being striped of at least 5 of her medals and probably a whole lot more. Big race weekend in Charlotte and massive trafic so it will be a stay at home type of time. J&W

Ms SD: I think what I like the best is that not that many people expected them to be successful. So it’s even sweeter when its “unexpected”. It’s the first team trophy won by the cross country team since The Boy has been involved in the and probably dating back much longer than that. Its accomplishments like that which makes high school so memorable.

Kitty: I know that they’ve had some good individual runners from time to time; but this was the first year that winning as a team was even on the radar. I’m very proud of The Boy and his teammates.

Carolina Jim and Wife: I hope for more good days in the future; but will still be satisfied if we never have another one. The question isn’t who cheats; but who doesn’t. It’s easy to cheat. The people who do rarely get caught. And it ads a major boost to performance. They probably only catch a small percentage of the cheaters; especially in sports like track and field where there is minimal monitoring of the athletes when they aren’t in competition. The urge to win at al coasts is just too great.
