The Putrid Game
The kids are back in school so it was a very busy weekend for us. There were football games to attend, boys soccer games to watch, and, of course, boys cross country meets and girls soccer games. It wasn’t the best weekend for the kids, athletically so it wasn’t as much fun as it usually is for California Girl and I. Unlike last year when he brought home some iron for the mantle the first meet of the season, The Boy ran a slow time and was not one of the top finishers. They’ve been running well in practice, both as a team and individually, so, he was very disappointed with his performance. And The Girl played, as she described it, her worst game ever. I’ve seen almost all of her games and I can not say that I disagree with her. Good play is infectious, and unfortunately, so is bad play. When she plays well, she makes the players around her better. When she plays poorly she makes the players around her worse. She’s had bad games from time to time; but never ones where she’s still mad about the way that she played days later. This coming weekend and a chance to “redeem” themselves can’t come soon enough for either of the kids.

I’m sure with your encouragement it wont be long before they are able to redeem themselves.
We can all be too hard on ourseves from time to time about “poor perfomance”. There is a line where it is good and inspires better performance and also too much lamenting on the past can drag you down. Keep your collective chins up. CG’s diphragm insertion picture is now my desktop. Best to all of you. Jim and Wife
As they say, “A defeat today makes tomorrow’s victory sweeter.”
Kitty: I feel for them. I know that it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. But when you’re in high school, a bad performance at a sporting event is a big deal. I wish life was always that simple.
Carolina Jim and Wife: At least there are some games/meets soon (this weekend). That’s a lot better than ending the season on a bad note. It may be a long week for them but Saturday will be here before they know it.
Grizzly Bear: I am really hoping for a double sweet day on Saturday.
