The Year Of Lasts
Earlier this week, California Girl and I attended an event that was the last one for The Boy. The finality of it didn’t dawn on me until later. Just as his freshman year in college will be a year of firsts, his senior year in high school will be a year of lasts. His last homecoming dance, his last cross country meet, his last wrestling week, his last senior prom. Depending on where he goes to college, he may continue to play sports; and I’m sure that there will be many more dances in his future. But the innocence of high school is almost over for him.
We are very proud of him and what he has accomplished. He is a good athlete and an excellent student. In some ways, he is mature beyond his years; but in other’s he’s still the just a boy. Having kids was a big change from when it was just the two if us. Now, after 15 years where it’s always been the four of us, the thought that it will soon be just three of us seems strange. His last year at home is special and we’re really going to enjoy it.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. We’re spending ours with the kids,

My 17 year old started his first college class today as a matter of fact (he’s doing Saturday classes at a community college while he decides what he wants to really study) so I know what you mean. My oldest moved out two years ago… It’s a strange feeling, but luckily she’s in town, so we still see her regularly.
I’m sure with you and CG as parents, he’s got a good head on his shoulders… he’ll do fine!

My Girl friend is Hot: The weekend was OK. Sunday was a quiet day; but it was to cloudy/windy to get into the pool.
DisappearingJohn: I worry about him. Almost all teenagers think they are king of the world. Unfortunately, the world is a very unforgiving place. What’s the saying? Life is a cruel teacher; first it gives you the test. Then it teaches you the lesson. I hope it’s not the case, but I think passage to adult hood is going to be more difficult for him than it was for his mother and me.
