Fuck A Duck
It was bound to happen sooner or later but two mallard ducks, apparently a mating pair, have moved into our swimming pool. I get chassed by geese all of the time on my lunchtime runs so I’m already not very fond of waterfowl. And of course there is goose poop everywhere. So, we’re keeping the chlorine level in the pool high just to be safe. They would not have been as big of a problem earlier in the year; but, now that the weather is warmer, we rather be swimming than cleaning up bird poop. I don’t want to hurt them but I really, really want for them to go away. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My suggestion: volunteer to doggy sit a neighbor’s dog for about a week, one who remains outside and can safely reside in your back yard. Assuming that it’s barking doesn’t unduly upset your sleep, this should (hopefully) take care of the quacker problemo!
If you “google” getting rid of ducks, a repeller comes up that is supposedly non toxic to birds, pets and people that you spread in your yard. It however, doesn’t mention swimming pools. Maybe contact your local pool supplier?
I finally, after 7 years found a way to get rid of my ducks. Helium balloons! All around the perimeter of the pool..maybe 8 of them, and one attached to a float in the pool. they HATE shiny things that move. the trick is to put them out just as soon as the pool opens (or before the ducks return). they go away and don’t come back until next season. AND, it always looks like you’re having a pool party!

Found the above on a web site somewhere too….maybe some of those mylar balloons would help. Fill some with helium and maybe blow some up by mouth so they float on the water???
Rob: Any dog that I wouldn’t worry about falling in likes water too much and would move in just like the ducks. The pool is for people only. And outside dogs bark too much at night anyway. Too many coyotes, raccoons, deer, skunks, possums, etc.
Michelle: we’ve got a few Mylar balloons tied to the pool. We probably should have more but its all we had around. I’ll let you know if it works. I know they don’t like the automatic pool cleaner either but we can’t leave it running all of the time.
I have no suggestions but would like to see photos of this.
Chickie: The ducks seems to have lost interest and gone away. We’ll be sure to take pictures if they return.
