It’s Been A Good Week
We haven’t been blogging as much this week because we’ve had a lot going in the real world. Last month may have been the second coldest February on record and was definitely the dreariest; but March has been good to us here in Married In Ohio land. We don’t blog about work much; but, since we both have jobs, something does occasionally merit mentioning.
California Girl and I are in separate industries that seldom do well at the same time, so we seldom get good pay raises in the same year. This year, however, was an anomaly. We both have been doing well at work, and our accomplishments were recognized. So we did what every other red-blooded American does … we spent it. Obviously we’re not homeless and destitute; but it’s been many, many years since we’ve been in this position. And it feels good!
So, we purchased a new car with all of the latest gadgets. We drive our vehicles until the wheels fall off, so cars are a lot nicer with a lot more options than they were the last time we went car shopping. It’s been so long, in fact, that the kids only have vague remembrances of anything other than our current ones. California Girl and I remember our others (all the way back to the 1971 Chevy Caprice Classic that we had in college) but a new vehicle is still a big event for us.
Once we picked it up, we went for a ride just like we did in the old days. In some ways it reminded us of olden times when going for rides was our chief source of entertainment. And, of course the kids wanted to come along too. I’d forgotten how much fun it was. Familiar paths seem completely different when you’re on them because you want to be and not because you have to. I think we both have a tendency to work too hard, so it was good to stop and smell the roses. It’s not the most mature behavior, especially considering the price of gas but it was fun.
We’ve also been doing some (Internet) shopping. California Girl got a new bikini. The Girl got some new soccer gear. And The Boy got some new stuff for characters in his online games. This has been the week of excess. We even got a couple of fancy new keyboards for the computers. And we went out to eat to celebrate everything. Sometimes, you get the bear and sometimes the bear gets you. This week we have been feasting on bear meat. And it’s been very succulent.
P.S. In case you were wondering, we’ve been celebrating in the bedroom too.

Congats. You deserve it. You have a healthy work ethic that so many people seem to lack now and you are your childrens teachers. Wonderful news!!!!

It’s good to hear that you and your girl are doing so well. Having just gone through a rough patch in the lives of me and my girl, I can’t tell you how important it is to make note of the good times

I’m so happy for you and cali girl! You two deserve it so. Tiger and i can relate to your story. Hopefully we both will be on the recving end that you are on before too much longer also.
A new vehicle is a big deal for us too. We drive them until the wheels fall off. My vans happened last July and I was forced to buy another vehicle. I didn’t buy a brand new one though. It was 3 or 4 years old. It was still new enough to us though, some old man had it and had hardly driven it.
Anyway, I’m so happy for you guys. I bet caligirl looks great in her new bikini.

Wendy: Thanks. We learned long ago that if you want something do something about it yourself, don’t wait and hope for someone to give it too you. I know we don’t always get the mix between work and family right but we try.
Grizzly Bear: Life is never good 100% of the time. That’s what gives us greater appreciation for the good times. I’m glad that you and GG are doing well now.
Hot Husband and Hot Wife: We like to post when things are going well even if it is “boring” to some readers. There is already plenty of drama on the ‘net but not always a lot of good news.
Kitty: It’s been a long time coming. I think that’s what makes it so sweet. Bad times are contagious and expand to everyone in the form of layoffs and wage freezes and or cuts. Good times take a LONG time to trickle down. I know that is the way of things but sometimes, we get frustrated that we’re not more in charge of our own destinies.
It’s GREAT to have a vehicle where nothing is needs fixing. On my car especially, if it doesn’t affect safety or drivability I don’t repair it. For example, a broken AC compressor just means I sweat during the summer. So, a car where everything works is like heaven.
We’re going to try and take some pictures of California Girl in her new suit sometime soon. It won’t be the first time that we have done so but it really helps get us into the mood for spring.

Congratulations on your new purchase! Have you and California Girl broken in the car yet?

Chickie: Unfortunately not. With al of the warm temperatures after months of cold, snowy weather, most of the outdoor places where we could go parking have been too full of people. We hope to get too it soon. I know a couple of places that we can go once the novelty of warm weather wears off.
