The Best Christmas Present
When I got home last night after dropping the children off at one of their many activities, California Girl was waiting for me underneath the Christmas tree in her sexy Santa outfit. We have a tradition of sex under the Christmas tree during the holiday season that dates back to our first year in this house. I just shed my clothes, grabbed my Santa hat and joined her. We had several hours before I needed to retrieve the children and we made the most of them. It’s wonderful to be married to someone as fun loving as California Girl. She doesn’t do a lot of “what ifs”, looking for reasons not to do things. It’s possible that someone at the front door may have been able to see something through the sidelight; but how often do uninvited guests show up a 10:30 at night? It’s also possible that the neighbors might have noticed the flash from the camera for the photographs we took for this Thursday and wondered what was going on; but we don’t worry about what they might think.
We’ve got kids and jobs, all of which are a lot of work; but, when it’s just the two of us, the magic is still there. The love. The tenderness. The connection. We may be confused about a lot of other things; but we know what makes our house a home. California Girl has owned her Christmas “outfit” for many years; but it’s still electric when she puts it on. Even though have been together for a long time some things are still the same. Just California Girl and me having a good time on a Saturday night, enjoying each other’s company. We went home to our respective families when we fist started dating but this will be the 22nd Christmas we have spent together. Christmas has always been a time for us to renew ourselves and tend to the fires that fuel our relationship. And California Girl makes it easy to keep the passion alive. I just wish I could find her in the family room “dressed” for the evening with a fire going in the fireplace every day.
You guys are such a beautiful example of what marriage and family is all about. I know the pictures attract a lot of attention (and they should–they’re HOT!) but I love seeing the love youguys share even more than that.

Lucky Star: We probably shold have two blogs. One for words and one for photographs. We do the photos for fun but theres MUCH more to our relationship. I like everything being in one place but we do seem to have two audiences. We’re not going to change anything now (I probably hate change worse than you do), but it is something to keep in mind if we ever have to rearrange things for one reason or another.
I share Lucky Star’s endorsement entirely. Your blog is exactly what I was looking for when I started searching for “happily-married” blogs. As far as Christmas is concerned, I am less enthusiastic than I should be. It means sharing Emm and usually having less sex for a day or so (because of the late nights and the over-indulgence in alcohol). But Emm loves Christmas so much it’s difficult not to be drawn in.
Alfie: There is no rule that says that you can’t have sex firth thing in the morning, or take a break for lunch over the holidays. Then it’s OK if you have company for the evening and don’t have any private time. For us, Christmas vacation is when we wear out the Californa Girl’s diaphragm.
No, this blog is just fine the way it is – the wonderful mixture of words and pictures, of love and laughter, family and fun. You set such an example for the rest of us — that you love each other so much. And say it and show it.
Rosie: We don’t mind the people who visit only for photographs. But I do think that the photographs “get in the way” of words sometimes. I guess the simple solution is to post more so that there is more of a balance between the two types of posts. Our post frequency has declined since last year, primarily because everyone (i.e. the kids) is so busy.
