Where Did The Weekend Go?
With all of the rain this week, The Girl’s soccer game for this weekend was postponed due to unplayable field conditions. So California Girl and I unexpectedly had some free time this weekend. The Boy had a VERY muddy cross country meet which we attended but, otherwise, we spent the weekend at home. It was much to cold, wet, and dreary to get into the pool, so we got reacquainted with the home theater. It was good to spend some time just watching football in high-definition on the big screen and generally being lazy.
I love to watch the children compete but I miss being able to spend time with California Girl on weekends. Kids grow up in the blink of an eye, so it’s good to support them; but sometimes, I feel like California Girl and I get a bit out of step with each other. This is the first year that both kids are in high school (with the resultant increase in activities) so this is a new experience for us. How have you parents out there in blogland dealt with similar situations? I know that there is no silver bullet; but I’m curious what other moms and dads are doing.

We’re doing the exact same thing you are. Luckily, our really busy time won’t be until spring, but the kids are in club sports right now so it’s still busy. The seasons run almost all year round now. Sigh. Tough to get quality alone time, although, as they get older, it does get easier. Good luck!
MrManicDepressive: When the kids do club sports in the “off season” it’s only on weekends and they don’t practice every day like they do with their school teams. So there is more free time, especially during the week. But, I think the biggest difference is that I just watch them and that’s it whereas now I support their entire teams both JV and varsity so there is a lot more time involved. Plus in the spring and summer, days are longer so the is more time to do things.
