Can Anyone Read Chinese?

Monday, March 27th, 2006 | General | By: Midwestern City Boy

I updated our referral tracker so that it properly captures the titles of sites which do not use English characters. Now it shows real Chinese characters rather than just squares and squiggly lines. I can’t read Chinese and have no idea what the referring pages are except that they are some kind of search engine. I just didn’t like how the title was not properly displayed. I wonder what words cause our site to come up? On Sunday, 图片搜索—网易搜索引擎个性化新闻搜索热点资讯搜索 was our second most frequent referring site behind Google Image Search.

I started learning to read Chinese, but gave up. Learning to speak it was hard enough.

Google’s translator comes back as:

“Photo search-Netease search engines personalized news search information search hot”.

Which isn’t much help…

D-Man: Thanks! I checked Babelfish but I didn’t think about looking in Google. I guess everything is in Google. I figured it was a search engine of some kind. Do you really speak Chinese?

This is simplified chinese used by China.
It means “Images Search–Personalized news information search hot spot” Basically it’s a title saying the page is about image search. That’s all

Explorer: Thanks. I know it was from an image search but that was the extent of my knowledge. And I knew from the code page that it was Chinese. Other than that, I had no clue.
