The First Thing
Including the one we just got, California Girl and I have had three beds since we have been together. And we have had sex on all three of them before we ever slept on them. It’s not so much a tradition as it is coincidence. When we furnished our first apartment, we could not afford to have it delivered so we set up the first one ourselves. After moving boxes and furniture all day what better way to relax and unwind than a sojourn in bed? The first one didn’t last very long, so we got the second one in the late ’80s before we had any children and I came home form work every day at 5:30 so there was plenty of time in the evening to “inspect our purchase”. And the one that we just got happened to arrive on a Tuesday just in time for our HNT photo session and it’s accompanying “after party”. It was in the house almost 8 hours before we had sex on it which is actually the longest time of the three.
The new bed really dominates the room. It’s at least 6 inches taller than the previous on. We don’t have any problems getting into it but it is a bit weird when I sit on the side of the bed and my feet don’t touch the floor. I’m sure that I’ll forget about the height difference in my sleep and be surprised when I jump up to turn off the alarm in the morning for the next few days. California Girl on the other hand already seems used to it.
The new bed is also going to take some getting used to sex-wise. When I was going down on California Girl, my legs didn’t hang off of the bed nearly as much as the old one, so I was almost standing up. It was much more comfortable than the half-standing/half-kneeling position that I used with the old bed.
That got me thinking that it might be tall enough to have sex while I was standing up. We’ve done it that way before but it’s always been somewhat awkward since the bed was down so low. After she had gotten her diaphragm, I had California Girl slide down to the foot of the bed to “check the alignment”. It turns out that the new bed is nearly the perfect height. I was standing almost straight up and had no problem at all putting power in my thrusts.
We also wanted to see how much give there was in the new bed as opposed to the old one. So, after California Girl’s second orgasm, I climbed (and I do mean climbed) on the bed and started thrusting in the missionary position. Since the new mattress was so much firmer, the feel was different. The new springs really helped us maintain our rhythm. The difference was subtle but still quite noticeable.
I know that it will be a long time before we get another bed but I certainly hope that the first thing that we do with it will be the same as its predecessors.
I love the standing up posistion, I’ll have to remind my honey about that one, we haven’t done it like that in awhile. We changed from a futon to a real bed last year, talk about a difference in heights! We’re talking feet not inches. He keeps teasing me about getting me a step stool. I’m 5′2″ and its about waist level on me, I understand the whole literaly having to climb on to the bed. Enjoy your new addition!
The standing up postition is one of our oft used ones. Our bed is pretty high off the ground too. It’s a blessing in disguise that the old bed crapped out on you!
I like tall beds. I haven’t had one, have had friends that have. It’s great! Congrats on the new bed, and on ‘breaking it in’.
What is it about beds being higher these days?? and mine has four posts and I’ve yet to put them to any useful use.

Jessica: California Girl is 5′5″ but we actually have a step stool in the closest so she can easily reach high shelves. I think that we area going to make more use of the fact that the bed is at a convenient high in the days ahead. And standing is great so long as the parts align.
Chickie: I think standing will be used much more often now that we have a bed that is the right height. I don’t know what to make of the old one dying. It’s good to have something new in the bedroom.
Pretty peanut: A tall bed is a new thing for us; but, if every nigh is like yesterday, I’ll like only have tall beds forever
Rosie: Beds are somewhat higher, but, in our case it’s just that the old one was squashed down. Now we could do quite a few interesting things with four posts.
Lori: It’s not the best bed; buts its brand new which counts for quite a bit when compared to the old one. I think we’ll be experimenting for quite a while.
