Happy Thanksgiving
[Scroll down for today's HNT post.]
As we prepare to depart for our Thanksgiving feast at my mom’s house we thought it would be good to list some of the things that we are thankful for. Rather than focus on the world at large, this list gives thanks for things that are individually and unique to us.
- I am thankful that my brother’s head has not “washed up on the sidewalk”. (MCB)
- I am thankful that we have many interests in common and often spend time together having fun as a couple. (CG)
- Every year at Thanksgiving, my mom always reminds us at this may be “the last time we’ll all be together”. I am thankful that another year has passed and everyone is still alive and in good health. (MCB)
- I am thankful that we have a good cozy house where we can cuddle up together on a cold wintry day, as well as being able to look forward to long relaxing days in the swimming pool when the weather gets warm again. (CG)
- I am thankful that we all had a wonderful summer; full of the things that childhood memories are made from. (MCB)
- I am thankful that we are running for health and exercise. This is our fourth year of running, and we are much more fit and relaxed than when we started. It’s also an activity that we enjoy doing together. (CG)
- I am thankful that, despite dire predictions to the contrary from our families, California Girl and I have stayed together and are approaching the 20th anniversary of our engagement. (MCB)
- I am thankful for comfortable lazy holidays when we can just sit around and enjoy the comforts of life and reflect on our blessings. (CG)
- I am thankful that we started blogging. We have met a lot of wonderful people on the ‘net. (MCB)
- I am thankful that even when we have disagreements or misunderstandings, we take the time to work through them and to try to understand each other’s point of view. (CG)
- I am thankful that we have two wonderful children who are excelling both athletically and academically. (MCB)
- I am thankful that we have been able to find and keep good jobs. That’s not easy in today’s fast-paced and competitive economy. (CG)
- I am thankful that our family is still a foursome and hasn’t lost touch with one another. (MCB)
- I am thankful for the excellent high school that our son attends and that our daughter will be starting next year. It has challenging classes, encouraging teachers, a good mix of friendly kids from different parts of town, and a wide variety of sports to choose from. (CG)
- I am thankful that we live in the 21st century and have a massive array of technology at our fingertips to make our lives richer and easier. (MCB)
We hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday.

Chickie: It’s a long story but suffice it to say that my brother has the tendency to get involved with the wrong crowd. We would be sad but not surprised if he got himself into major trouble. His head washing up on the sidewalk is a metaphor for him getting lost at sea (a bad situation) and never being able to get back to land (pull himself out of it). At some point his head, and only his head, washes ashore meaning he lost forever (a lost cause or worse). It’s actually a bit scary.
Rosie: Thanksgiving is indeed a good day for reflection. We both have a lot to be thankful for both big and small.
Julia: Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. We’re glad that you liked our HNT shots.
Boredhousewife: Tanks. We know everyone does lists so we wanted ours to focus on the little things rather than the big picture. We really try to stay involved and engaged in the children’s lives. They are our pride and joy, and our #1 worry. We don’t have anything in particular to worry about but we worry anyway.

That one was my favorite for some reason.
And I am thankful to know such wonderful people such as yourselves. You make the outernet and internet a better place

Southern Sweetheart: We know that everyone does one but it’s still appropriate to reflect on our good fortune.
Kalani: We might have had the best summer ever. A lot of things came together that will probably never happen again. Even things that were beyond our control fell into place. And, even though we didn’t expect it, having a joint blog helped our communication with each other. That also contributed to a summer to remember.
Kelly: Thanksgiving was great. Everyone was smiling and happy. Family holidays can sometimes be stressful but this one may have been the most relaxed ever.
