I Hate Comment Spam

I am drowning in comment spam. The comments go directly to the moderation queue so nobody else ever sees them but it must be reviewed and purged regularly. So if you are a new poster, it may take a bit longer than usual for your comments to appear. Please be patient. I am looking for a better way to separate the wheat from the chaff.

MCB, I’ve had exactly the same thing. My inbox was getting swamped so I installed the Bot-check plugin over the weekend. It’s a bit like the word verification thing you see on Blogger comments, but uses numbers instead. Worked like a charm.

Ed: That is exactly the sort of thing that I am looking for. Unfortunately, it uses crypt which isn’t available out of the box for the Windows platform so I’ve got some tinkering to do. It will have to wait until later when the server isn’t quite so busy.
Update: I think I’ve got it working now.

Wanting More: I think I’ve got something for them now.
