Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentines Day which is always interesting around my place of employment. The guys basically break down into two groups. Those who have something elaborate planned to show their SO how much they appreciate her. And those who will be stopping on the way home to pick something up. I am always amazed by how many men can forget about a holiday that always happens on the same day every year. I’m in a third group. By mutual agreement, my wife and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day in a big way. We’ll still exchange cards (and bodily fluids) but nether of us is out there dropping major $$$ on expensive gifts. We tend to focus more on personal holidays like birthdays or our anniversary. And, unlike the holidays I just mentioned, we also are not obsessed with our celebration happening on the specific day. This year, for instance, we went on Saturday night to a Latin dance, and afterward just grabbed a quick bite. I know that Saturday is not the official day, but we would rather have an “open ended” evening out versus going out on tonight and having to rush home and get the kids ready for school on Tuesday. Besides, things are pretty much dead around her on Monday anyway.

California Girl and I have a long standing tradition of having sex on Valentine’s Day. Not that our marital relations are infrequent enough that it’s noteworthy; just a day where we try a little bit extra to make sure that our schedules align. She’s more of a morning person, and I’m more of a night person. So, we usually have more enjoyable experiences in during the day. I know some people prefer to have their romantic encounters at night but I like the daytime so I can see what I am doing. (Plus the lighting is better if you want to take photographs.)

There is more to the story but I need to go celebrate Valentine’s Day.

Later…
